Warranties also vary when you purchase solar shingles, be sure that you note the difference between power warranties. However, the longevity of solar shingles varies by the manufacturer and the installation. Service Lifeīoth solar panels and shingles have long life spans, typically upwards of 20 years. In general, solar shingles create a sleeker aesthetic than do bulky solar panels, particularly since only parts of the roof, like the edging, might be covered in shingles to be efficient. Since solar shingles blend right into the roofing materials, such as concrete or asphalt, many prefer this aesthetic rather than large black panels attached to the roof. While both solar shingles and solar panels convert the sun’s rays into energy, there are a number of differences that will help you decide between the two options: Appearance The number of tiles in a typical home roof installation can lower the utility bill by 40% to 70% by adding more tiles, you can increase the energy output. The majority of shingles will produce anywhere between 13 and 63 watts of power. OutputĪs the primary goal is to lower energy costs, this is a major consideration with solar installation. While these are more expensive, they are worth the extra price as they have a higher efficiency rate of around 15% to 20%. Some shingles, instead, use monocrystalline silicon, which is also used to fabricate computer chips. This semiconductor is an ideal material as it results in a high conversion efficiency rate, which is about 10% to 12% on average. Solar shingles are typically made from copper indium gallium selenide, which is what allows them to be so flexible and thin. It takes about 350 tiles to complete a typical solar roof installation. The thin tiles are less than an inch in thickness. Solar shingles are about the same size as traditional roofing shingles, with the average size being about 12 inches wide by 86 inches long, and weighing about 13 pounds per square foot. However, there are a few important differences that you should know about when determining your home’s solar energy needs: Size Solar shingles work in a similar way to solar panels-they both absorb the sun’s rays, converting the light to thermal or electrical energy. These shingles are not only energy-efficient, but they also offer a more attractive aesthetic to a home than do the large, bulky panels normally associated with solar-powered energy. Like regular roof shingles, solar shingles protect your home from the weather and other elements. Minimizing contamination from equipment, people, the environment, and from unprocessed food. Removing or destroying them by trimming, washing, heating, pickling, by adding chemicals, or by encouraging competition by acid- or alcohol-forming organisms. The food processor reduces potential problems from microorganisms in several ways: Although viruses require a live host cell and cannot multiply in foods, they can remain viable and infectious for long periods of time, even under highly adverse conditions, such as drying, freezing, and pasteurization.įactors Affecting Growth of Microorganisms As disease transmitted by food to human beings.Bacteriophage infections of starter cultures can interfere seriously with the manufacture of cheese, buttermilk, sauerkraut, pickles, wine, beer, and other desirable fermentative products. As a bacteriophage of lactic or other fermentative bacteria. The viruses are important to the food process in two respects: On the other hand, several animal viruses, known as zoonotis, can infect human beings. As a result, viruses which infect bacteria, called bacteriophages, cannot infect human beings or other animals. Viruses are normally specific in their selection of host cells, some infecting but one species, while others are capable of infecting closely related species. Instead, they must first invade the cells of another living organism called the host, before they can multiply. Unlike bacteria, yeasts, and molds, viruses are incapable of reproducing independently. Viruses are the smallest and simplest microorganisms. Thus, they can be a problem in dry foods, salted fish, bread, pickles, fruits, jams, jellies, and similar commodities. In such environments, yeasts or molds predominate. However, bacteria find conditions of low pH, moisture, or temperature and high salt or sugar unfavorable. Since bacteria grow faster, they greatly outnumber yeasts and molds in most foods. Yeasts and molds grow on most foods, on equipment, and building surfaces where there are small amounts of nutrient and moisture. They reproduce by spores that are frequently present as green or black masses on the protruding hyphae. Molds can thrive in conditions too adverse for bacteria or yeasts. The chains usually have numerous branches, called hyphae. Molds as found on bread, fruit, damp paper, or other surfaces are actually composed of millions of microscopic cells joined together to form chains. In budding each cell can produce several buds, or swellings, which break away to form new, fully formed daughter cells. Yeasts are oval-shaped and slightly larger than bacteria. Most sporulating bacteria that grow in the presence of air belong to the Genus Bacillus, and most that grow only in the absence of air belong to the Genus Clostridium. Among the bacteria, sporulation is not a means of reproduction since each cell forms a single spore which later germinates into a single cell again. When conditions become favorable, the spores germinate, with each spore again becoming a vegetative cell with the ability to reproduce. Spore forms preserve the bacteria from starvation, drying, freezing, chemicals, and heat. Vegetative cells form spores under adverse conditions as a means of survival. Some rod-shaped bacteria are capable of existing in two forms, dormant spores and active vegetative cells. If there are 1000 original cells instead of a single one, there will be over 1 billion cells in 5 hours. Under ideal conditions, this doubling may occur as frequently as every 15 minutes, so that within 5 hours there will be more than a million cells from the original single cell. The two cells then divide to become 4, 4 become 8, and so forth. All bacteria reproduce by dividing into two cells. To see them, you need a microscope that magnifies about 1000-fold. There are thousands of species of bacteria, but all are single-celled and fall into three basic shapes: spherical, straight rods, and spiral rods. Most are harmless, many are highly beneficial, some indicate the probable presence of filth, disease organisms, spoilage and a few cause disease. Bacteriaīacteria are the most important microorganisms to the food processor. The tiniest life forms are bacteria, yeasts, molds, and viruses, termed “microorganisms” because of their size (micro meaning small and organism meaning living being). When victorious in war, one should observe the rites of mourning.” When great numbers of people are killed, one should weep over them with sorrow. Stanza 71 states, “Arms are instruments of ill-omen. Stanza 75 states, “He who lives out his days has had a long life.” The Lao Tzu Tao Te Ching attempted to address this issue. Lau explains in his translation of the Tao Te Ching ( Dao De Jing), a philosophical work anthologized in the same period, that during the Warring States period, survival for most folks was an immediate concern. Mark Edward Lewis in the Cambridge History of Ancient China characterizes the Warring States period as having “a small number of territorial states involved in constant diplomatic maneuvering and intermittent but frequent large-scale military conflagrations.” 6 He mentions shifting alliances, states organized for warfare (with population registration, universal military service, adaptations of military rank, massed infantry, states based on the service of the peasant household, siege warfare, the use of cavalry, the manufacture of armor and helmets, larger armies, and the creation of a specialized, intellectual discipline devoted to the conduct and principles of combat).ĭ. Drill manuals, deployment methods, and tactics suddenly became indispensable. Armies grew in size, and managing them effectively meant that their core had to be composed of practiced, disciplined officers and soldiers. The feudal lords had evolved into despotic monarchs who had to expand their agricultural output to survive. The chariot remained important until well into the Warring States, when it was gradually supplanted by large infantry masses and eventually, during the third century BCE, began to be supplanted by the cavalry.” 4 Use of the crossbow became widespread.īy 403 BCE, the conflicts of the Spring and Autumn period, which preceded the Warring States era, had segmented China into seven powerful survivor-states, each contending for control of the realm, and fifteen weaker states for them to prey upon. “True swords didn’t become common until the middle of the Warring States period. Warriors were using the ko (dagger-ax), spears and the compound bow. 3īy the fourth century BCE, the Chinese had a centuries-old advanced bronze-making industry and they were casting iron. David Shepherd Nivison writes that all “books” prior to 221 BCE, no matter whose names they bear, are either obviously layered texts that “grew” over centuries or are suspected to have been added to, taken from, rearranged, or pieced together after the main author (if there was one) died. Some feel the book is a distillation of military thought at that time. However, scholars disagree over his very existence, much less his authorship of The Art of War. The Art of War is the world’s oldest military treatise, having been anthologized in the second half of the fourth century BCE, during the Warring States period (403–221). The notion (of shock and awe) is to do minimum damage, minimum casualties, using minimum force.” 2 Shock and awe was never supposed to be about obliteration but about will power: stunning one’s opponent into realizing that your might was so enormous, so unbeatable, that the fight was as good as over. The idea is to get the other side to quit by not firing a shot and if war comes, to win it with minimum cost all around. “The question is: how do you influence the will and perception of the enemy, to get them to behave how you want them to? So you focus on things that collapse their ability to resist. In the above paragraph, Harlan Ullman, the American military strategist who developed the concept of “Shock and Awe,” the Pentagon’s initial approach to the war in Iraq, paraphrased an anecdote from the Chinese classic, The Art of War ( Bing Fa) to make this point: Then he summoned the head concubine and cut off her head. So he told them to march, and the concubines just laughed. So Sun Tzu said: ‘Do I have complete control?’ The emperor said yes. Because if he could do that, he could do anything. Sun Tzu (Sunzi in pinyin) was hired by the Emperor as a general, and instead of an interview, the Emperor told him to teach his concubines to march. However, allies may be heavily damaged (though not destroyed) if they are caught in friendly Support Fire. Support Fire has the ability to heavily damage and easily destroy enemies if they are caught in its radius. A new addition to Battle Operation 2 is "Support Fire", which can be activated at spawn points in certain game modes. The jump command has been changed to "ascend" and crouch to "descend".Īs in the original game, pilots can leave their mobile suits for a variety of tasks, including capturing spawn points, planting/disarming bombs at bases, commandeering enemy mobile suits, and using various vehicles parked around spawn points. However, a key difference is that instead of being limited to a singular plane or surface, movement has been redesigned to freely ascend and descend on a vertical axis. Space still operates using similar dimensions as ground combat, and the controls are relatively the same. In addition to the ground-based combat of the original game, Battle Operation 2 introduced maps for space combat. Like the original Battle Operation, the game takes its playable roster of mobile suits exclusively from the Universal Century timeline, and battles are fought between two teams of between 1-6 players each via peer-to-peer connection. The proposed Steam port will not allow cross-play with the PlayStation versions. However, the first network test proved "unable to provide an adequate playing environment" and a planned second network test was postponed on June 23 and was not rescheduled until the following year, beginning on Januand running for three days. On April 7, 2022, network tests for a proposed PC port were announced on the game's Steam page. While cross-play is still permitted with players using the PlayStation 4 version, the PlayStation 5 version utilizes the inherently unique features of the DualSense controller, and boasts faster loading times and an increased framerate, though the loading times would still remain unchanged for PvP modes. On January 27, 2021, an enhanced version of Gundam Battle Operation 2 was made available for the PlayStation 5. The game was released to western territories, including North America and several European countries in October 2019 and English-language voice acting was added to the game in the Januupdate patch. An option for English subtitles was added on October 24, 2018. The game was initially only released in Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Unlike Gundam Battle Operation NEXT, the first spinoff to the original Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation, Battle Operation 2 is closer to a true sequel that keeps and expands upon the gameplay mechanics of the original title, and completely abandons the fast-paced, arcade-styled elements of NEXT. Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2 is an online free-to-play action game released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 via the PlayStation Store in July 2018. Right now, Twitter is developing new features, for new times, and these things have to be tested before being rolled out across the site. Twitter also needs to test for the future. Of course, the implications of all this stretch beyond mere windows into Twitter’s past. You can see some of the profiles above, along with Following list of six profiles – including isn’t a test profile, obviously, although you will see evidence of testing relating to that account… So it was the simplest and most immediate task in the world to round up, from follow lists, a number of other Twitter test accounts – some even more obscure than the initial discovery, and showing followers totals of between 0 and 2. No invasions from the herd of Twitter geeks, etc. All you have to check, is the follow was an undiscovered account, so the follow lists were in very pure and uncorrupted shape. One test account is highly likely to connect to others. On Twitter, things naturally connect together. You may, in fact, have moved on from the discovery of this test account, to the scope for finding others. If you’re reading this post as a WordPress follower, as it goes out, you join me as one of the first outside of Twitter and its associates to know about this testbed, and gain a window into the actual testing sequence for direct photo uploads in tweets.īut if you’ve read my detailed studies on finding/exposing Twitter catfish, and recovering sequences of old you may already be a step ahead of this article. Even today, over five years after the historic launch of direct image uploads in tweets, has only 14 followers, and has not yet been beset with Likes or RTs. What surprised me was that virtually no one else had made the same discovery. Indeed, it was during a search for the earliest use of that image-dedicated subdomain that I discovered this particular test account. You’ll notice that the subdomain Twitter uses to host its native photos () was receiving content at least as early as 9th May 2011. The use of a Twitter feature, before the feature existed.Īctually, if you explore the contents of further, you’ll see a lot of interesting remnants from the period before photos officially “took flight” on Twitter. Once you see that date – 1st June 2011 – on a photo-tweet, you know you must be looking at a Twitter test account. And this makes for a fascinating discovery, because the only people who could have tweeted natively uploaded images before it was officially possible, would have been Twitter employees, or close associates. But in the deep underground of an unknown profile called there’s evidence of direct photo uploads having taken place before that day of launch. Officially, prior to 2nd June 2011, tweets had no means of accepting direct image uploads. Let’s begin with the account that tested Twitter’s direct photo uploads before the feature ever went public. We’ll be looking at a few important components in the history of Twitter’s development, which only a very small number of people outside Twitter have previously seen. In this post, I’m going to reveal some of these characteristic Twitter test accounts to you. But most of them are very, very obscure, and are therefore secret on the basis that hardly anyone knows about them. If Twitter had wanted to keep them strictly hidden, they wouldn’t be live on the open web with public status. Of course, these accounts (or at least the ones we can feasibly see) are not secret as in classified. We all get excited about finding things we weren’t meant to see, but for an Internet historian there’s a special kind of excitement in discovering official Twitter test accounts. The "sorrowful quick figures", the "coasts (that) swing upwards" and the "knuckled hills" all imply a greater presence within the poem, possibly of a God who takes the soldiers "high high and higher" away from their loved ones and histories. The repetitive reference to "them" adds to the lack of individuality and the continual building quantity of the casualties a war has. As "they"re giving them names" the audience is repulsed as this is one of the last remaining individualities that is afforded to the dead of war, along with the categorical listing of the soldiers with their "curly-heads, kinky-hairs, crew cuts (and) balding non-coms" showing that background class and race no longer matter your individuality lost. Furthering this methodical sense is the repetition of "they"re", which detaches the living from the dead and shows the lack of compassion which is afforded to those who have died for our country, building the image of the mass quantity of the dead.ĭawe constantly reminds his audience of how ones individuality is stripped from them when they die in war. "Bringing", "picking", "zipping", "tagging", and "giving" once again provide a horrible contrast between the living and the dead, as the verbs indicate the vibrance and life of those bringing home the dead lifeless bodies. In twenty-five lines of dramatic and shocking poetry, Bruce Dawe's "Homecoming" manipulates the audience to view the tragedies of war and the lack of respect that is given to those who fight within it.Ī methodical production line of bodies is created with the use of "-ing" throughout the first lines of this stanza. Several Chafe Guard Options are Available. The same chafe guard tubing can be also installed below the eye down the line to protect the rope from chafing against hawser holes, etc. Permanent or Shackled Connections - The connection between the mooring pendant and the swivel eye hook or shackle can be a permanent spliced connection (the hook is connected directly to the thimble) or a temporary connection (the hook is connected to the thimble via a shackle).Ĭovered Eye Splices - To protect an eye splice from chafing on a cleat, the eye splice can be providing with chafe guard tubing.
